A 15-year-old Welsh girl, Mary Jones, walked 28 miles in her bare feet just to buy a bible. That was over 200 years ago. Her story helped lead to the founding of the Bible Society and a commitment to make the Bible available throughout the world.

Today, there is a hunger worldwide for the Bible that has never been stronger. That’s why the Canadian Bible Society is dedicated to make the Bible’s message of forgiveness, justice and hope available, understood and respected in every language and culture throughout the world.

We work through a global alliance of some 140 national Bible Societies. Together we provide ‘most of the world’ with more than 300 million Scriptures distributed every year.

Heading to Uganda in November of 2011, I asked the gentleman who invited me and was arranging the details of the trip, "What might I bring to the host homes I am staying with, by way of a thank-you?"

"Is there anything I might bring to you?"

"Anything I might bring to Joy Primary School?"

The answers were definitive and unwavering in conviction; Bibles were the only currency that would mean anything.

My journey to Madudu and Jinja, 150km west of Kampala and 80km east of Kampala respectively, was an incredible time of speaking and praying, worshipping and simply delighting in the Lord together.

I met strong Godly leaders. Men and women who are going forward in the vision and provision of the Lord, doing with what they have, trusting the Lord for what they don't have.

Such a sense of sufficiency and faith I instantly knew that these are the kind of people Capturing Courage International wants to be working alongside.

On the home front I had found this same sufficiency and faith walk in Amie and the Canadian Bible Society. Collaborating towards a common value and goal is something CCI delights in. At Capturing Courage we have found great partners in CBS.

With The Canadian Bible Society seed-gifting 48 youth Bibles for the P.3 and P.4 classes at Joy Primary School in Madudu, it was simply our pleasure to deliver these. During my short time in Uganda, I came to clearly see that Bibles are luxurious items. The hunger for God's word was palpable.

Going forward as we bring deep spiritual restoration, leadership development and Bible training to Pastors in Uganda, we are glad to be partnering with The Canadian Bible Society, bringing the word of God together, to Pastors in Africa.
