Believers long for the Word of God, but there aren’t enough Bibles for every single Christian. Actually, even many pastors don’t own a Bible of their own. And, without Bibles, the biggest challenge for the growing Chinese church is the invasion of heresy and false teachings, especially in rural areas where most Christians live.Your gift will help millions of Chinese believers get a copy of the Bible at a price they can afford, so every Christian in China can have a copy of theWord of God and not have to choose between their daily bread and the Bread of Life.

 | CONGO - Releasing the Bible in the Fight against HIV/AidsThe Republic of the Congo has been deeply impacted by the generalized epidemic of HIV/AIDS. The number of people infected is constantly growing, despite prevention efforts made by the government and other stakeholders. In addition, there is great discrimination, stigma and social rejection of people living with the disease. Yet, through the Bible Society’s Good Samaritan Program, outreach efforts are being undertaken to include workshops with facts, dramatic presentations and group interaction while Bible-based booklets share the good news that, even though the world may turn its back, God will never abandon the sick and dispossessed.

 | PERU - Amazon Hope BoatBlessed with a rich and ancient heritage, spectacular and colorful scenery, and an abundance of natural resources, the citizens of Peru should enjoy cultural advantages and economic prosperity. Yet, because of numerous military conflicts, political corruption, and ethnic inequality millions live in dire poverty. The extreme conditions are most evident along the mighty Amazon where more than 600 thousand men, women and children eke out a bare existence without the basic necessities of health care, housing or education. Every two months expectations of a brighter future are raised when the ship Amazon Hope cruises up and down the river, delivering in equal measure essential medical help and the promises found in God’s word. The work of Amazon Hope is organized and funded by the Peruvian Bible Society and Scripture Union Peru. Their long-term plans include providing care from Christian doctors and nurses; sharing Jesus with the native children through Bible classes; and distributing Gospels of John, New Testaments, and New Reader Bible portions.

 | PHILIPPINES - Placing the Bible in every homeThe Republic of the Philippines, a nation of over 94 million people living on more than seven thousand islands, is one of only two predominantly Christian nations in Southeast Asia – with 90 percent of the population identifying themselves as followers of Jesus. Yet, despite their religious heritage, the country is racked by dire poverty and corruption. Many Filipinos cannot afford God’s Word which means that the important faith-building actions of reading, engaging with and understanding the Bible are sorely lacking. Working with the full support of the local church, The Canadian Bible Society is committed to helping the Philippine Bible Society achieve their goals of providing “people with Scriptures in the language they understand, in formats they prefer and at prices they can afford.”
