CHANGING TIMES AND TECHNOLOGY BRING NEW OPPORTUNITIES TO CANADIAN BIBLE SOCIETY

December 3, 2009 – Toronto, ON – In a world of disposable products, rapid change and uncertainty, the Canadian Bible Society (CBS) exists to reach every man, woman and child with the life-giving Word of God and to encourage its use. We also continue to partner with the 145 national organizations in the United Bible Societies family and we translate and distribute Scriptures in over 100 languages, so that people everywhere can receive the Bible in their heart language.

While our vision to bring God’s Word to the world remains constant, changing times and new technologies bring challenges and opportunities that must be reflected in our approaches. Over the past two years, together with our management team, we have responded by initiating new ministry partnerships, new branding, and more effective communication with thousands of loyal CBS supporters. In distribution, we have streamlined our methods and we have added cutting edge Scripture resources that include audio downloads and digital options.

CBS Director of Communications, Marta LoFranco says, “The Bible is relevant to all generations. Over the past months, we have modernized our CBS logo, our website, our magazine and our online store to encourage the next generation to catch the vision and carry the Bible cause as their parents and grandparents have done for years, as faithful supporters of the Canadian Bible Society.”

We continue to work diligently to find the most effective way to multiply our reach and to distribute our resources on a larger scale.  Through the implementation of a restructuring plan for CBS districts across the country, we will be using our resources more effectively and with greater impact.

Consequently, we have decided to focus on a stronger online presence, and we are also replacing some of the Bible Houses with a number of CBS kiosks, operating in partnership with existing Christian retailers. We believe that coupled with stronger links with local ministries, our enhanced online store, mail order program, and new kiosks will provide better service to a larger number of Canadians – including many in remote areas that remained underserved.

For all of your Scripture needs, we invite you to visit the CBS online store at www.Biblescanada.com and to support our partner retailers in your community. Please call 1-800-465-2425 for additional information.

As for the ministry of the CBS districts, we are fully committed to seeing that district ministry not only continues but that it increases. Our district teams will continue to keep people informed of local and national CBS initiatives and events. As always, His Word is clear, consistent and compelling and CBS remains constant in our mission to spread The Word. For Life.
