Every Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. in the boardroom at MacKinnon Transport, a group of Christian employees gather to pray. At the same time, a couple of transport drivers are pulling onto the shoulder of the road to join their co-workers in prayer.

A few years ago, such a practice was unheard of in this office. But that was before Evan MacKinnon, President and ceo of MacKinnon Transport, was introduced to a totally new way of life.

“Ten years ago I made a number of sweeping changes in my life – changes that fostered a strong sense of spirituality that I had never before experienced. It was around the same time that I met my wife, Linda.”

After a few years of spiritual growth and discovery, Evan joined Linda at her church in Waterloo, ON (Koinonia Christian Fellowship) and, in the fall of 2006, took a New Testament Bible study course.

“It was through that course that I met Jesus. I have an addictive personality. If something is good I want more, which is why I’ve been grabbing every bit of knowledge I can – and why my faith has grown so much since 2006.”

Since being baptized in 2008, Evan has been surprising people by sharing his faith widely. “I’m so much more calm and accepting than I used to be. Many of my employees feel comfortable chatting with me about their faith. A lot of people in the trucking industry have seen the changes in me which affords me dozens of opportunities to share my faith and new lifestyle.”

When we think of trucks and truck-drivers, most of us just focus on the products that they deliver; however, Evan’s focus is on the person behind the wheel with whom he can share his faith. In the company’s quarterly newsletter, he reaches out to his office staff, drivers, customers and suppliers – fuelling them with his passion for God and His Word.

“I’m not a forceful Christian,” says Evan. “I accept other people’s right to choose. I sincerely believe that leading by example rather than through promotion is the way to win souls for Christ. St. Francis of Assisi said it best, ‘Preach the gospel at all times and when necessary use words.’”

For Evan, the third chapter of Proverbs is a guiding light, particularly verses 5 through 9.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. Remember the Lord in everything you do, and he will show you the right way. Never let yourself think that you are wiser than you are; simply obey the Lord and refuse to do wrong. If you do, it will be like good medicine, healing your wounds and easing your pains. Honor the Lord by making him an offering from the best of all that your land produces. Proverbs 3.5-9 (GNT)

Evan MacKinnon trusts in the Lord with all of his heart and he relies on God to show him how to run his business. We thank Evan for his support of the Canadian Bible Society and for his faith that isn’t just fuelling trucks across our great nation – it’s fuelling lives!
